What is HUMSS?

Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) is a strand in the academic track offered along with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM); and General Academic Strand (GAS) in the senior high schools of the Philippines to the students who completed their junior high school.

Oftentimes, the strand HUMSS is looked down upon by most of the learners. It has been associated with the words “easy”, “basic”, and “inferior” because of either their romanticization towards other strands or the belief of superiority towards other strands compared to HUMSS.

“Ano strand mo? HUMSS? Basic!”

“HUMSS ang strand mo? Madali lang ‘yan eh!”

“Puro essay lang daw dyan sa HUMSS.”

Mostly, along those lines are their attitude towards the strand HUMSS. Yet, what they don’t realize is that no strand is better than the other. All strands facilitate an individual who will have a certain role in the society that will make significant contributions to our nation in the near future. In fact, HUMSS strand facilitates future educators, lawyers, psychologists, etc. (See section for several college courses available to you if you took the HUMSS strand below to know more.)

  1. Thank you, Ms. Judiela, for this insightful blog. I concur with you, all strands are equal as they will serve their own unique purposes to society; there is no superiority among them because they each hold their own importance that will lead for the greater good . As for the layout of the blog, information is well presented and easy to navigate, and the color choice is pleasing to the eyes.

As a result, it is our responsibility to make smart and critical decisions on who we will vote for and, most importantly, to vote and be well-informed and instructed about the important things regarding the Philippine Election 2022.
